At Neyenesch Printers, we take pride in helping our clients bring meaningful stories to life through high-quality print. One recent project that beautifully blends education, environmental awareness, and creative storytelling is Condor, Horny Toad & Trapdoor Spider’s Trip to the Ocean. This book follows three land animals as they journey to the ocean, only to discover their aquatic friends are in trouble due to pollution and human impact.
This project, written by Gail Schneider and David Matlin, is more than a children’s story, it’s a thoughtful exploration of connection, compassion, and environmental stewardship. The book is part of a broader initiative led by San Diego State University and the California Sea Grant, aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of deep ocean DDT contamination and its effects on sentinel wildlife species and humans.

Designed to Make an Impact
Printed on a horizontal 12″ x 9″ format, the book features a 111# Silk Cover and 100# Uncoated interior pages. We used a 4-color process with full satin aqueous coating on both sides of the cover and vibrant 4-color printing throughout the interior, all finished with a clean perfect bind for durability and presentation.
In addition to the book, we also printed three unique packs of trading cards to complement the story, each pack containing 13 illustrated cards with educational text, wrapped neatly with a belly band. These cards serve as a fun and informative way to engage younger audiences and deepen their understanding of environmental issues.
Supporting Environmental Education
The book is being distributed to schools, aquariums, and museums for educational use, with some copies also going to educators, scientists, and policymakers. To ensure this message continues to reach new audiences, public donations are being collected to fund additional printings. Each $25 donation helps cover the cost of printing and keeps this valuable resource accessible.
We’re honored to have been chosen again by the authors for this project, having previously printed one of their earlier books. It’s projects like this that remind us how powerful print can be, not just for sharing stories, but for sparking change.
