2022 Fulfillment Packaging Options
Fulfillment packaging options vary depending on your needs, but no matter what you need, the packaging you choose matters. How your package arrives at its destination matters. Your customers impression matter. Don’t use packaging that is going to get to your customer smashed or with the contents broken.
Why fulfillment packaging options matters:
- It protects what you are shipping
- It is a way to brand your company
No one wants to get a box that is smashed or otherwise damaged. How it arrives to your customer matters. Cartons come in different weight grades. The higher the grade the more protection they provide.
Types of fulfillment packaging options:
- Envelope: Good for non-breakable items such as paper and apparel.
- Bubble mailer: Good for odd shaped items that are not too large and not too fragile.
- Carton: Good for any type of shipping.
Your first consideration is what will best protect the items that need to ship. Your second is what provides a good presentation and finally what is most economical. In most cases you will need to stock all three of these options since you need to consider the shape, dimensions, weight, quantity and fragileness of what you are sending.
Once you have chosen your package type you need to consider your packing materials. These can consist of:
- Paper: This can be wadded up and placed in the extra space in your box to prevent shifting of non-breakable items.
- Bubble wrap: This should be used to protect breakable items by wrapping them in bubble wrap.
- Packing peanuts: This is another option for breakable items and can be used in conjunction with bubble wrap.
- Air packs: This fills the extra space in the box and does not contribute to weight.
- Special niche foam inserts: These are custom made to help support and protect breakable items. They surround the item and completely fill the box.
The packing materials should fit with what you are sending. Packing paper is great to fill void space inside boxes that contain items that cannot be broken. If one item in the box is breakable you can bubble wrap that item and then add packing paper to fill. This is both more economical and better for the environment than filling the whole box with bubble wrap.
